“Essential oil” and “fragrance blend” describe different kinds of aromatic material. Understanding the distinction makes it easier to choose a product for its intended use rather than treating one category as automatically superior.
Essential oils
Essential oils are volatile aromatic materials obtained from botanical sources through processes such as distillation or expression. Their scent can vary with origin, harvest and production method. They are concentrated materials and should be used only as directed.
Fragrance blends
Fragrance blends are composed to create a particular scent profile. Depending on the formula, they may use natural aromatic materials, synthetic aroma molecules, or both. This broader palette can support consistency, stability and notes that are difficult to obtain directly from nature.
What should guide the choice?
